General Meeting
Nice turnout. The group is certainly earning its wings.
Jack Unger presented info on his new book, Deploying License-Free Wireless Wide-Area Networks, from Cisco Press. Frank Keeney spoke at length about his recent deployment of Cisco Leap security in a nation-wide retail environment. See below for links and video.
We talked about deploying wireless networks, of course. Especially brought up channel separation, geographical layout of access points, antenna selection, and AP installation tips. Remember, place the access point as close to the antenna as possible - and APs out-of-the-box do not generally have any kind of security enabled.
We had some discussion on the CWNA - Certified Wireless Network Administrator certification. Mike Tosch, one of the more recent CWNA’s, spoke about his experience passing the exam and the benefits the certification provides.
We brought up the idea of having some kind of meet-up, drive-in, war driving contest, T-hunt, or something fun in the next 3 weeks. If anyone has ideas, send a note to the discussion list. Let’s do it!
After the presentation, lots of groups broke off to talk about their businesses and various projects going on. The meeting went long, even though the presentation was short! The local Denny’s is closed, so we hung out at the meeting place until about 11:00. (more…)
